Region 3 Crowned Team Champions at Adequan/FEI North American Junior & Young Rider Dressage Championships

Saugerties, NY. – July 19, 2017 – The Adequan/FEI North American Junior & Young Rider Dressage Championships kicked off the first day of competition by crowning the Young Rider team medals in Saugerties, New York. Earning the gold medal was Region 3, which consisted of Bebe Davis, Katrina Sadis, Marline Syribeys and Rachel Robinson. The team from Region 2 earned the silver medal and Region 1 rounded out the top three with bronze.

Bebe Davis and her 9-year-old Oldenburg mare Fiderhit OLD earned the highest score in the Young Rider Team Test with a 73.921 percent and lead Region 3 to win the team gold medal.

“We are a new partnership and I’ve only been showing her since this winter,” Davis said. “I’m super happy with her and I’m so grateful to be here. It’s an awesome experience!”

“I really enjoy being on a team,” Davis continued. “Last summer I was not able to compete at NAJYRC because I was in Europe at Haagen with another fantastic team of girls. Going in as the anchor, I did feel extra pressure but these girls are awesome support, so I was grateful that I was able to help everyone earn gold.”

Fellow Region 3 teammate Katrina Sadis rode her 13-year-old Lusitano gelding, Zepelim, to a score of 66.842 percent.

“I was so happy with my horse Zepelim,” Sadis said. “He is super consistent and always there for me when I need him. I work for Marcus Fyffe Dressage and I would really like to thank David [Marcus] and Nicholas [Fyffe] for everything they have done for me. A huge shout out to my parents for making this possible — I am really thankful. Riding on a team is a bit more pressure because you want to do well, but you don’t want to take too many risks. It’s great to be a part of this team.”

Marline Syribeys of Atlanta, Georgia, rode Hollywood, an 11-year-old Hanoverian gelding, and earned a 68.921 percent to contribute to Region 3’s win.

“I was just super happy with him today,” Syribeys explained. “He went in with really good energy and super feel underneath me. I’d like to thank my trainer, my mom and everyone else who is out here to support me.”

Region 3 won the gold medal: Katrina Sadis, Rachel Robinson, Marline Syribeys and Bebe Davis

Rachel Robinson riding Indira, a 13-year-old Westphalian mare, earned a score of 65.289 percent in their test. The Region 3 team rose as champions among nine other teams in the competition.

“This is my second NAJYRC at Young Riders,” Robinson said. “Indira and I put in a solid test today — nothing phenomenal, but a really solid test to go into the week with. I’m really happy with her. Luckily my coach, Christine Traurig, was able to make it this year so huge thank you to her for spending the week with us.”

The silver medal went to the young rider team from Region 2, which consisted of Callie Jones, Sophia Schultz, Rebekah Mingari and Jacquelynn Mackie.

Region 2 earned the silver medal: Sophia Schultz, Jacquelynn Mackie, Callie Jones, and Rebekah Mingari.

“I’m really excited to have the ride on her,” Mingari said. “She’s an incredible mare. She’s very focused and we had a really great ride today so I’m thankful for that.”

Jacquelynn Mackie and Weltrubin 5, a 17-year-old Hanoverian gelding, scored a 60.974 percent.

“It wasn’t the best ride,” Mackie explained. “I’m still proud of him because he sometimes likes to take over. I’m really thankful to my team for bringing their A game.”

Region 1 riders, Chase Shipka, Anna Weniger, Kristin Counterman and Kaitlyn Lingard, took home the young rider bronze medal. Chase Shipka and Zigal, a 13-year-old KWPN gelding, earned a 69.921 percent, which was the second highest score of the day.

Region 1 earned the bronze medal: Kaitlyn Lingard, Anna Weniger, Kristin Counterman, and Chase Shipka.

“He was absolutely amazing today!” Shipka said. “I only got him this winter so it is a brand new partnership. My team was amazing today so I’d like to thank them all. Also thanks to my coach Oded [Shimoni] and Robert [Dover] who is in Aachen this week. Go Region 1!”

Kristin Counterman riding Three Times, a 17-year-old KWPN gelding scored 66.000 percent.

“I was so pleased with Three Times today,” said Counterman. “He’s owned by Dressage4Kids, so that is how I found him. His previous owner, Caroline Stevens, donated him, so I’m so grateful to be able to ride this amazing horse because without Dressage4Kids and without Three Times, I wouldn’t have these amazing opportunities. I was so proud of him. He’s a very brave and forward horse. I’m looking forward to the rest of the week.”

“We had a fantastic warm-up and he went in there and was with me. We had a few rough spots but it’s the first day and I was so proud of him. He’s very brave and forward. We’ve improved so much.”

Anna Weniger of North Carolina started riding Don Derrick, her mom’s 13 year-old Grand Prix gelding, last year and has enjoyed learning from the schoolmaster. The pair earned a 62.263 percent.

“He is a very special horse,” Weniger said. “We had a really fun ride today with some mistakes, but luckily my awesome team made up for the mistakes and we made a strong showing overall. I think riding on a team makes it more fun. It’s a different experience and you make lots of friends. Riding on a team makes the competition fun.”

Kaitlyn Lingard competed at the NAJYRC in 2014 as a member of Region 1, so being back riding Valentino, a 15-year-old KWPN gelding, was a dream come true. They earned a score of 61.553 percent.

“I was really happy with him,” Lingard said. “He usually gets some bad show nerves, but he stayed with me today. I’m really excited to be a part of Region 1.”
