North Salem, N.Y.– Aug. 2, 2018 – The Quebec/Alberta dressage team rode to win the Young Rider Dressage Team Championship gold medal at the Adequan®/FEI North American Youth Championships (NAYC) presented by Gotham North at Old Salem Farm in North Salem, N.Y. The three-rider team did not need a drop score to claim gold as they all placed in the top 10 individual rankings with a combined score of 210.145 ahead of the Region 4/7 combined team (202.646) and the Region 1 team (202.087) on the opening day of NAYC on Wednesday, August 1.
“It’s very special for us — we’ve been on the same team many times and we have a fantastic relationship,” said Camille Carier Bergeron, 18, who as the final rider to go for the team clinched the gold for the Quebec/Alberta team with her score of 70.35 percent riding Baldacci, the 12-year-old KWPN gelding she owns with Gilles Bergeron.

Bergeron, 21 and from Mascouche, Quebec, said she didn’t think about how crucial her score would be since the team did not have a drop score.
“I was trying to focus on myself and my horse,” Bergeron said. “I was just trying to be in the ring and focus on our movements and nothing else. [When I saw the score] I just cried. I have no words, actually, thinking about all that my horse and I have been through, all the training. I’ve had him for one and a half years, and we’ve made so much progress. Being able to have a 70 percent at a championship is a dream come true.”
Boucher, Moussa and Bergeron rode together on the junior teams at NAYC in 2014, and Boucher and Bergeron competed as juniors again in 2015, with their teams earning fourth place as a team each year, which made this gold even sweeter.
“It was very special because we were all on a team together when I was a junior and this is my last year, so I don’t know that I’ll be on a team with these girls again,” said Moussa, 21.
“Today I was just so happy with his rideability and consistency,” Moussa said of her test with Davidoff v.h. Trichelhof. “Pirouettes have not been his strong point, so I was excited to get those done well.”
Boucher, 21, is competing in her last year as a young rider, as is Bergeron. “There are no words to describe winning a gold medal,” Boucher said. “The trot work was really consistent today. I was really happy with our test; he was really consistent and winning the gold was a great way to close my young rider time. Delfiano has such a strong personality. He’s like a little puppy dog. He wants treats all the time and he’s looking for treats in your pocket.”
The silver medal went to the United States Region 4/7 combined team with a final score of 202.64, with Tillie Jones riding Apachi (65.61 percent), the 13-year-old KWPN gelding she owns with Tish Jones, Jenna Upchurch riding Westerstorm (61.55 percent), Debra Klamen’s 15-year-old KWPN gelding, Annika Tedlund on Vade Mecum Interagro (67.02 percent), Linnea Tedlund’s 17-year-old Lusitano gelding, and Christian Simonson on FRH Rassolini (70.00 percent), Christina Morgan’s 15-year-old Hanoverian stallion.
The United States Region 1 team of Amanda Perkowski on Quando Boy (65.55 percent), her 14-year-old Oldenburg geldng, Kristin Counterman riding Three Times (65.55 percent), Dressage4Kids’s 18-year-old KWPN gelding, Anna Weniger on Don Derrick (68.23 percent), Dawn Weniger’s 14-year-old NRPS gelding, and Kayla Kadlubek on Perfect Step (68.29 percent), her 17-year-old Hanoverian gelding, claimed bronze with a team total of 202.08.
The young rider division will continue on Friday, Aug. 3, with the FEI Young Rider Individual Test. Meanwhile, all horses in the junior dressage division passed the horse inspection. They will begin competition Thursday, Aug. 2 with the USDF North American Junior Team Championship.
