Wellington, Fla – Jan. 12, 2017 – An eager crowd gathered to watch the first CDI-W of the 2017 Wellington competition season at The Stadium at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center (PBIEC) sponsored by AMCI to benefit Brooke USA. American Lisa Wilcox and Jacqueline Shear’s Galant, an 11-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding, came out on top with a total score of 71.340 percent in the Grand Prix.

“He’s gotten over the summer so much stronger and you’re seeing the expression in that strength that we built in the piaffe, the passage, and the transitions in and out,” Wilcox said. “Everything is so much more matter of fact.”

The pair made their Grand Prix debut in September 2015, and Wilcox was thrilled with his progression over the past two years, especially in their trot tour. This was their first time heading down centerline since the 2016 Adequan Global Dressage Festival.

“I just feel like I have a second year Grand Prix horse now,” Wilcox explained. “These movements are not so ominous for him mentally.”

Looking forward, Wilcox aims to qualify for the FEI World Cup in Omaha, Nebraska.

“We are realistic about it but we have a lovely freestyle that we just got and will debut on Friday night,” Wilcox concluded. “I’ve only had a chance to ride this twice now because it really did just come off the press. I think it’s going to be a crowd pleaser and Galant loves it. I hope that shows itself in the arena!”

The Grand Prix Freestyle will take place on Friday, Jan. 12 with first rider down centerline at 7:15 p.m.
