Wellington, Fla. – Feb. 23, 2017 – Laura Graves and her 15-year-old KWPN gelding Verdades put in a spectacular test on Thursday afternoon to top the field in the Grand Prix CDI-W presented by The Axel Johnson Group during the seventh week of the Adequan Global Dressage Festival. The pair received a total score of 80.240 percent, their second mark above 80 percent in the Grand Prix, the first having come two weeks prior in the CDI-W5*.

They were joined in the top three by their Olympic teammate Steffen Peters who brought home second place on 10-year-old Rheinlander mare Rosamunde with a score of 74.820 percent. Kasey Perry-Glass and Goerklintgaards Dublet, a 14-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding, rounded out the top three with a score of 73.200 percent.

Graves was thrilled with another mark above 80 percent.

“It feels much more secure,” she said. “It’s really nice to know that what happened at the five star wasn’t a one hit wonder. It’s pretty awesome, it’s a really exciting way to go into the big things we have planned.”

She was pleased with Verdades’ performance in the ring on Thursday afternoon and noted some of their highlights.

“His rideability was really super today,” she said. “I was happy with my zig-zag. I felt like he covered a lot of ground in both directions. The pirouettes were really on today as well.”

Steffen Peters was pleased with his mare’s performance on Thursday and noted that the heat was actually helpful as she tends to be a hot horse.

“The heat actually affects her positively,” he said. “She’s quieter–it helps a hot horse to settle down a bit more. I still had a bit more energy than I wanted, but so much better than two weeks ago. I am super happy with her.”

“She did awesome trot half passes,” he said. “The extensions were beautiful, she had wonderful pirouettes and is just so much fun to ride.”

Kasey Perry-Glass was happy with her test aboard Goerklintgaards Dublet and noted that the work they have been putting in on relaxation is paying off in the ring.

“What we’ve really been working on is relaxation in his ride,” she explained. “Maybe not as much power but we will get that power with the relaxation. I feel like my warmup is so soft and so fluid and he took it into the ring. I was so happy with that even with a couple of my little rider errors that he was very much more relaxed and happy in the ring today. I’ve been working really hard for that and so I couldn’t be any more proud of him.”

Competition in the CDI-W presented by The Axel Johnson Group will continue with the Grand Prix Freestyle on Friday evening at 7:00 pm.
