German Youth Talent Shines at Hagen Nations Cup

Kerrigan Gluch and Vaquero HGF led the U.S. team to a fifth place finish at the Hagen CDIO-Y

Hagen, Germany – June 10, 2016 – Germany was unstoppable at the Hagen CDIO-Y Nations Cup for Young Riders, rolling to a clear victory while also sweeping the top three places. The team earned an overall score of 226.842 for a winning margin of nearly 20 points.

Guided by Chef d’Equipe Oliver Oelrich, all three German competitors scored above 70 percent. Jil-Marielle Becks on Damon’s Satelite, a son of Damon Hill, earned a huge 76.36 percent for the high score in the Team Test. Her teammate Anna-Lisa Theile rode another Damon Hill son, Ducati K, to a score of 74.868 percent for second, while Anna-Christina Abbelen guided Fürst on Tour to third with 72.5 percent.

Countries fielded teams of two or three athletes, with the third ranked score, if applicable, serving as the drop score.

Denmark, whose riders turned in consistent performances to take fifth, seventh and eighth in the individual ranking, finished second behind Germany with an overall score of 207.171. The Netherlands took third place with 202.237.

The U.S. sent a team of three of its top young riders, who made the trip to Europe to gain international experience. They finished in fifth place overall with a score of 197.566. The trio’s scores were closely bunched, all within one percent of each other, but Kerrigan Gluch had the team’s top mark of 65.965 percent on Vaquero HGF, which put her in 10th place individually.

Lauren Asher placed just behind Gluch with De Noir 3, scoring a 65.746 percent, while BeBe Davis was part of a three-way tie for 12th on Don Antonio, scoring a 65.351 percent. Davis borrowed Don Antonio from Jochen Arl.

Thursday’s Team Test determined the Nations Cup team results, and riders then went on to compete in Friday’s Individual Test. Gluch moved up the charts on Friday, taking sixth place with 66.754 percent. Asher was 15th with a 64.781 percent, while Davis was 16th with a 63.816 percent. The German entries were again the top three finishers, finishing in the same order as in the Team Test and all earning the only scores above 70 in the class.

The Individual Test served as a qualifier for Saturday’s Freestyle Final, and the top 15 athletes – including Gluch and Asher – will return for the final leg of the competition, with the others having the opportunity to compete in Saturday’s Small Final.
