Alcazar Withdrawn from Aachen Nations Cup

Katherine Bateson-Chandler and Alcazar

Aachen, Germany – July 15, 2016 – The United States team at the Aachen Nations Cup CDIO5* will move forward to Saturday’s second round of competition with one fewer team member, as Katherine Bateson-Chandler has withdrawn Alcazar from the Nations Cup due to a mild case of colic.

Alcazar, an 11-year-old KWPN gelding (Contango-Polina, Ferro) owned by Jane Forbes Clark, displayed colic symptoms early on Friday. Bateson-Chandler consulted with Dr. Rick Mitchell, the U.S. team veterinarian, and made the decision to withdraw him from competition and treat him for colic.

The remaining three members of the U.S. team – Steffen Peters, Shelly Francis and Tuny Page – will compete as planned in Saturday’s Grand Prix Special. The team will no longer have a drop score; all three athletes’ scores in the Special will count toward the team total.
